Based on the promulgation of the Fair Competition Review System, this paper examines the impact of de-administrative monopoly on TFP from the perspective of enterprise productivity improvement. The results indicate that the Fair Competition Review System helps to promote TFP for firms under high administrative monopoly. Channel analysis shows that the system can improve corporate innovation, credit resource allocation, and corporate governance, which eventually promotes firm TFP. Further analysis suggests that the promotion effect of the Fair Competition Review System on firm TFP is stronger when the government is more innovation-oriented and when the business environment is better. Moreover, the association between the Fair Competition Review System and firm TFP is more pronounced in areas with a higher market segmentation index. When the system is adopted with a sound governance integrity restraint and accountability mechanism, the positive effect of the Fair Competition Review System on firm TFP is reinforced.
This paper enriches the implementation effect of the Fair Competition Review System from the perspective of input-output efficiency, which is of great significance in guiding the further regulation of administrative monopoly, the establishment of a fair and orderly market system, and the promotion of high-quality development of the economy.
